Summary:
The 2022 Annual Report provides an overview of items that the Board of Adjustment and Planning Commission addressed over the previous year. This year's annual report is the first to summarize both the Board of Adjustment and Planning Commission year in review.
In 2022, the Board of Adjustment reviewed 18 variance requests, approving 14 and denying 4. The Board of Adjustment reviewed and approved one special use exception for a contractor's shop with storage yard in the joint jurisdiction area. In comparison, the Board of Adjustment reviewed 35 variance requests in 2021, approving 28 and denying 7. Two special use exceptions were reviewed and approved, both also for contractors' shops with storage yards located in the joint jurisdiction area.
For the Planning Commission, three preliminary plats were reviewed in 2022, with two passing and one denied. From the three preliminary plats, only four new residential lots were preliminary platted, down significantly from the 125 residential lots preliminary platted in 2021. There were 162 new residential lots final platted in 2022, up from the 95 residential lots final platted in 2021.
The number of rezoning requests and zoning ordinance amendments dropped slightly from 2021 to 2022 while the number of requests for conditional use permits, commercial corridor design reviews, initial and final development plans and annexations all increased.
One Tax Increment District was certified in 2022. Two future land use map revisions were approved. Six joint jurisdiction zoning meetings were held and the revisions to the Joint Jurisdiction Ordinance were finalized in December 2022.
The Annual Report review offers a time for the Planning Commission to discuss other successes, challenges and priorities for the year ahead.
