Title
Action on Resolution 20-043, a Resolution Authorizing the City Manager to Sign an Agreement for Federal Aviation Administration Grant for Airport Mower (Fuel Tax Funds).
Body
Summary:
The Brookings Airport is requesting to use $5,000 of aviation fuel-tax grant funds to apply towards a zero-turn lawn mower for the airport. The Fuel Tax Fund is maintained at the SDDOT and is funded by $0.06/gallon of aviation fuel sold in Brookings. The current fund balance is approximately $13,000 and is available for local airport needs. The cost of the mower is approximately $13,000 and will be purchased from a Brookings vendor. This grant will cover $5,000 of the cost and the City Airport Maintenance Budget will cover $8,000 of the cost.
Background:
The City mows approximately 165 acres of grass at the Brookings Airport. The most time consuming work is mowing around approximately 300 runway edge lights. The current airport mower is old and drives approximately 5 miles per hour with a limited turn radius. The proposed mower can operate at 15 mph and will take approximately 1/3 of the time to mow around the airport lights as well as be faster for the straight-mow areas.
The resolution will authorize the City Manager to sign an agreement for Federal Aviation Administration Grant No. AP 0005-2020 to use Fuel Tax Funds in the amount of $5,000 to purchase a mower. The City’s share of the mower will be $8,000.
