Summary:
Staff is proposing amendments to the Subdivision Regulations related to the final plat approval process. The proposed changes will streamline the approval process by allowing for administrative plat approval.
Background:
The South Dakota Legislature has provided local units of government the authority to designate an administrative official to approve plats in South Dakota Codified Law 11-3-6. The City of Brookings passed resolution 43-2000 on July 10, 2000 authorizing the City Manager to approve all plats in the City of Brookings. The Subdivision Regulations still reference language requiring the Planning Commission review final plats and provide a recommendation to the City Manager.
Staff is proposing amendments to the Subdivision Regulations that would make the final plat approval process and administrative function by allowing the Community Development Director and City Engineer the authority to review and recommend approval of final plats to the City Manager.
