Body

Summary and Recommended Action:

On August 24, 2026, City Manager Paul Briseno, on behalf of Mayor Oepke G. Niemeyer, directed the Chief of Police to prepare an educational presentation for the September 22, 2026, City Council meeting regarding the Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) technology utilized by the Brookings Police Department since February 2024.  The presentation will provide an overview of how ALPR technology is used and the benefits it provides as an investigative and public-safety tool, including assisting with stolen vehicles, missing persons, and criminal investigations.  Staff recommends approval to continue utilizing the ALPR service, which is an already approved and budgeted expense.
